Pentagon: There was no real withdrawal of Russian troops
Russia withdrew only a small part of its troops from Kyiv, but only to concentrate on the Donbass.
Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said this at a briefing in Washington, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Kirby, the United States does not yet believe that Russia has abandoned its plans in Ukraine.
“Has there been any movement of some Russian units away from Kyiv in the last XNUMX hours or so? Yes. We think so. Small numbers. But we believe that this is a repositioning, not a real withdrawal, and that we should all be prepared to watch a major offensive into other parts of Ukraine,” the US official said.
“In the East, in the Donbass, there has been a conflict there for eight years now, and the Russians are investing more resources there to achieve their goals. All these efforts were considered part of Russian efforts to subjugate Ukraine, but so far the efforts have not been successful. Now we think they are going to prioritize in the east,” Kirby said.
