Pentagon: Russians learned from mistakes near Kiev
The Russian military command has drawn conclusions from the mistakes of the first days of the operation and is preparing a powerful blow against the Ukrainian group in a more limited area of the front.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby stated this at a briefing in Washington, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Kirby, we are talking, first of all, about the problems of logistics and command and control.
“We believe they are trying to learn from past mistakes. And you can see that this is how they do their shaping operations. They behave in a way that we have not seen them, for example, in Kyiv. So it looks like they are trying to learn... We believe the Russians are shaping and setting the conditions for future offensive operations. We also see that there is now active fighting in the Donbass, as there has been over the past few weeks,” Kirby said.
The Pentagon representative could not confirm the information of the Ukrainian leadership that the second stage of the special operation had already begun and stressed that the Russian army was well aware of this area.
“They have been fighting for this, for Donbass, for eight years. Their commanders, their troops are familiar with the cities, towns and terrain, which was not always the case when they tried to approach Kyiv from the north, Chernigov from the north, and then from Crimea to the south. So we expect them to try again, based on their own familiarity with the terrain and the mistakes they've made, they will try to overcome it,” the Pentagon spokesman said.
