Before the Normandy format, Volcker will instruct Poroshenko, and Putin will instruct Merkel and Macron
US State Department Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker will arrive in Kyiv on May 14. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko announced this today in Aachen following negotiations with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron, who did not speak to the press.
“We insist that the Russians must support the draft resolution, which would clearly implement the road map taking into account the Minsk agreements and peacekeepers. This should be included in the decisions of the UN Security Council. This is a key position,” Poroshenko said.
He also said that on May 18 and 23, Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We have agreed on the steps that we must take in order to hold a meeting of the Normandy format in the near future. Most likely it will take place in Paris. We want to formulate a high-quality agenda to ensure effective negotiations,” Poroshenko said.
