Before joining the Armed Forces of Ukraine they will now be checked for separatism
Today the Verkhovna Rada voted to amend the draft law to clarify issues of military service under a contract, according to which all those who want to start serving in the army will have to undergo a test for separatism, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andrei Parubiy presented this bill for discussion.
People's Deputy from the Popular Front faction Tatyana Chernovol said:
“You know, this law was submitted for consideration quite a long time ago, entire blocks of it have already lost their relevance, but despite this, the bill itself does not lose its importance. It appeared after a huge sabotage, when a significant amount of ammunition burned in our warehouse. Unfortunately, after the registration of this bill, there were a number of fires. Now we have such a situation that when the military registration and enlistment office considers applications for military personnel to sign a contract, there are no checks. We do not know whether this person is associated with terrorist separatist organizations or not. There are no grounds for refusal, because we are not protected from all further sabotage that may occur in the middle of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” she said.
People's Deputy Ivan Vinnik said that the current legislation of Ukraine allows even those persons who are not citizens of Ukraine to perform military service under a contract.
“In addition to this, we now have obvious military aggression on the part of the Russian Federation. In the east of our country, the FSB is very active, recruiting citizens. That is why the changes introduced require a voluntary check of a person for anti-state actions who enters into a contract for military service,” he noted.
Taras Pastukh from the Samopomich faction noted the fact that, according to the new standards, a contract with a person will be concluded for a period of 1 to 10 years. This, he believes, will help the Ministry of Defense convince people to continue military service.
Sergei Rudyk from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction called for the immediate adoption of this bill, as, in his opinion, it is extremely important.
“A few years ago, a project was registered that was supposed to make it impossible for those people suspected of separatism to enter the civil service. Unfortunately, it was previously rejected.”
Alexandra Kuzhel from the Batkivshchyna faction, in turn, noted that a much more important question is how exactly Kyiv plans to protect those who believe in their country, rather than how it will choose them.
Let us note that after this a vote took place, during which 231 deputies voted “for” the adoption of the law, and the decision was thus made.
