Before the second round, Gritsak announced the detention of “Russian saboteurs”
The SBU reported on the alleged exposure of a group of saboteurs consisting of seven people and involved in the assassination attempt on officers of the Ukrainian special services.
As the head of the SBU Vasily Gritsak said at a briefing in Kiev, the detainees are allegedly related to the liquidation of Ukrainian intelligence general Maxim Shapoval in 2017 and the attempt on the life of an unnamed officer of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The leader of the group, according to Gritsak, was a Muscovite born in 1978, Alexey Komarichev.
Komarichev himself was injured during the early detonation of an explosive device in Kyiv.
“Both terrorist attacks were planned, financed, organized directly by the Russian special services. These were joint operations of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation and the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, better known as Russian military intelligence,” Gritsak said.
The head of the Ukrainian security service emphasized that all seven “saboteurs” were detained, and investigative actions are ongoing with them.
