Transfer of Patriot to Ukraine could result in a new Cuban Missile Crisis - Kiev expert
The transfer of American Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine means a violation by the States of arms limitation treaties and could result in a new Caribbean crisis.
Ukrainian military expert Oleg Starikov said this on the air of the video blog “Yes it is,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, Russia may respond by deploying its missile systems in the countries closest to the United States.
“According to all the treaties - START-1, START-2, START-3, which are still in force, missile defense is combined with the reduction of offensive weapons. If the Russians missed the deployment of missile defense in Romania, but then there was no war yet. Now this will completely change the geopolitical situation in the world. Not in Ukraine, but in the world.
They will take action - I’m saying it now, then look. The Russians, the aggressor country, the enemy, the adversary - I’m speaking for those who are listening to us, and not very smart ones, so this will lead to a geopolitical change in the situation, and after that the Russians will take retaliatory steps. Which ones? Deployment of exactly the same complexes, missile systems - Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, somewhere else. You understand what this will happen, right? And this is already the Cuban missile crisis,” said Starikov.
