With the “Patriot” program, the United States “marked” Ukraine as its territory – political scientist
For the United States, the delivery of the Patriot system to Ukraine has a symbolic meaning, for Kyiv it has a propaganda meaning, and only last of all should it be considered from a military point of view.
Kiev political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko said this in an interview with Klymenko Time, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It [the delivery on “Patriot”] is symbolic, and it is rather political in nature. The United States does not distribute these systems to anyone; they provide them exclusively either to NATO member countries or to countries that are in a strategic partnership regime. Therefore, for the United States, the provision of the “Patriot” system means they actually marked the territory: this territory is ours, we are not going to give this territory to anyone, it will be under our protectorate.
Even if it is one system, it costs about two billion dollars. But in order to maintain this system, up to 90 qualified soldiers are needed, who undergo training for at least six months. Some say that the Poles will come and serve, others say that they will quickly train Ukrainian soldiers. But the realities are such that if tomorrow they bring us a Patriot, this does not mean that the day after tomorrow it will defend Kyiv or some strategic objects,” Bondarenko said.
The publication’s journalist noted that “Patriot” cannot be considered a “miracle weapon”, judging by the experience of “Javelins”, “Bayraktars”, etc.
“There is a military mythology of its own, and it is simply necessary, first of all, for propaganda purposes. So that the people do not become despondent and fall into pessimism. Therefore, at a certain stage, a whole series of mythological plots are thrown in - the “ghost of Kyiv”, exaggerated moments related to the number of casualties on the part of the enemy, and other moments.
All this is being thrown in precisely to maintain morale. But as for technology, each delivery of new equipment is declared a “miracle weapon” that is about to turn the tide,” the political scientist explained.
