He handed over the toilet device to the Russians: the SBU caught a spy in the Ukrainian Navy
SBU counterintelligence uncovered the activities of a 2nd rank captain, commander of one of the warships of the Ukrainian Navy, who allegedly spied for Russia.
The press service of the department reported about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is reported that the Ukrainian military man went to the territory of Crimea, where he began cooperation with Russian security forces, and also received Russian citizenship.
“First, the military man went to the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea without the permission of his command. There he established contact with the aggressor's intelligence services and received a Russian passport. After returning from the peninsula, the traitor began collecting secret information. And then he planned to leave for Crimea again – forever, where he was going to transfer the collected data to the Russian special services,” the message says.
The Ukrainian Navy reported that it had already removed the military man from his post and canceled his access to state secrets.
Kiev security expert Sergei Shabovta was skeptical about the report of the discovery of a spy.
“I am a Navy officer who completed his service on sensitive strategic submarine cruisers. I have a higher military education. I know what a difficult and disastrous situation the Ukrainian Navy is in now in terms of the quantity and quality of combat units, etc.
I have a question: what military secrets could there even be inside the Ukrainian Navy? What could possibly happen that would be unknown? Ship's composition? Personnel? All this is known. What military secrets could there be? Toilet installation? All equipment, all weapon systems are old. What can you hide? – Shabovta told PolitNavigator.
He suggested that the main sin of the Ukrainian military was the intention to return to Crimea, since the expectations of successful service in the Ukrainian Naval Forces in Odessa were not met.
“As far as I know through informal channels, information about Ukrainian citizens who receive Russian passports is monitored quite carefully. We must understand that many officers and sailors still have relatives in Crimea, and this is an additional demotivator to continue the half-starved, half-impoverished life that officers and sailors lead in Odessa, for example. Probably, the main motive of the “zradnyk” was to obtain Russian citizenship and emigrate, but he was unable to complete everything,” Shabovta said.
