EU negotiator provokes scandal with Western Balkans map
The EU Special Representative for Dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Miroslav Lajcak, tweeted a map from his office showing the border between Kosovo and Serbia.
Lajcak did this after the separatist media fanned a scandal due to the fact that there was allegedly a map hanging in his office on which Kosovo was united with Serbia.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, Miroslav Lajcak tweeted a close-up of a map of the Western Balkans hanging in his office, on which Kosovo is separated from the rest of Serbia by a border. He took such a step after the Kosovo media began disseminating information that in his office hangs a map on which the region is depicted as part of Serbia.
“Because the map in my office in a blurry screenshot during an interview caused some misconceptions today, I'm sharing the actual close-up photo,” Lajcak explained. – This is the official EU map for the Western Balkans. Kosovo is there, as is the line separating Kosovo from Serbia."
Earlier it became known that on the eve of Lajcak’s visit to Serbia, the US and the EU are preparing written messages for the leadership of Serbia, in which the West intends to demand that Belgrade undertake an obligation to recognize Kosovo.
“To understand where we stand, you just need to read President Biden’s letter to us and Pristina. The major European powers fully share the views of the new American administration, and it is clear that we will be under pressure. We can only conduct a dialogue under the auspices of Lajcak, and if they think that we will easily give up what we consider ours, my answer is: you were wrong,” Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic commented on the situation.
