Zelensky's negotiator: The topic of the special status of Donbass is closed
There will be no special status for Donbass - it “has no right” to dictate its terms to the “majority” of the population of Ukraine. The representative of Ukraine at the negotiations in Minsk, Roman Bessmertny, stated this on the Espresso TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Bessmertny proposes that the Servant of the People party not extend the declarative law on the hypothetical possibility of granting the LDPR a special status (it is not implemented in practice, but gives Kiev grounds to report on allegedly following the spirit of the Minsk agreements and demand the extension of anti-Russian sanctions).
“The law on the peculiarities of local self-government in certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions was adopted not on Zelensky’s initiative, not under Zelensky’s pressure, and this must be clearly understood.
Secondly, on January 1, 2020, this law ceases to apply. Next is the exam before the Ukrainian authorities - we will extend it or not.
For me there is no discussion here at all, because I was one of those who, I hope, successfully and forever buried the idea of amending the Constitution regarding a special status.
At the last meeting in Minsk, I said this in the presence of all representatives - that’s it, stop talking on this topic, because no one in any country will allow part of the population, no matter how important it is, to dictate the will of the majority. That’s it, we closed this topic, it doesn’t exist for Ukraine,” Bessmertny said.
Thank you!
