Negotiations on Donbass are proposed to be moved to the “gray zone”
With a high degree of probability, the Minsk negotiations on the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Donbass will change location.
The director of the Institute of Peacemaking Initiatives and Conflictology, Denis Denisov, writes about this in Izvestia, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Since Ukraine has clearly expressed solidarity with Europe and declares non-recognition of Alexander Lukashenko as president, apparently, in the near future the negotiating platform will most likely be changed,” Denisov notes.
He clarifies that among the places that are now most often discussed are Geneva, Helsinki, Stockholm, Vienna, and the second echelon of potential sites for negotiations are Bratislava, Paris, Chisinau and Belgrade.
At the same time, the author is surprised that neither Ukraine nor the LDPR came up with the idea of organizing negotiations to resolve the conflict in Donbass itself - in the “gray zone”.
“Based on the preliminary analysis, several potential locations can be proposed: Stanitsa Luganskaya; Checkpoint Mayorsk – checkpoint Horlivka; Golden. Both from Ukraine and from the Donbass republics, acceptable entrances to these locations are equipped, and in the “gray zone” there are a number of objects that can be used for negotiation purposes.
But the most important thing is that with such a decision, all parties involved will demonstrate that they respect ordinary citizens who have been forced to overcome very great difficulties for more than six years to cross the contact line,” the author believes.
In his opinion, placing a negotiation platform in the “gray zone” would be a very symbolic decision, demonstrating the most constructive attitude of the participants.
“There is no doubt that if the negotiation platform is located in the “gray zone”, this factor will also guarantee the end of the armed confrontation in this area and, as a result, a new safe area will be formed. The decision is up to the negotiating participants,” Denisov summed up.
