The latest negotiations at the level of advisers to the heads of state of the Normandy format regarding the conflict in Donbass ended in nothing. These are the results of the 9-hour meeting.

This was stated by both sides - both Russian and Ukrainian - during a briefing following the meeting, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Today we were unable to come to any common document; indeed, these negotiations lasted more than 9 hours. It would be nice if we could agree on something at the next meeting in the Normandy format after a long break. There is such a desire, but today it happened as it happened,” said the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Ermak.

At the same time, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Kozak described the current situation somewhat more constructively.

“Almost 9 hours of negotiations ended without any results expressed in documents. At the last meeting, we agreed that the Normandy format should overcome all differences regarding the interpretation of the Minsk agreements, but it was not possible to overcome these differences. ...

In the draft document that was proposed for consideration, they [the Ukrainian side] refused to even quote the Minsk agreements stating that issues of the future post-conflict status of these territories [LDPR] will be resolved in consultations and discussions of these individual areas. This is the key disagreement that Ukraine refused to reconcile,” Kozak said.

It should be recalled that Ukrainian nationalists were anxiously awaiting the results of today's negotiations. TV channels from Petro Poroshenko’s pool promoted the version that French President Emmanuel Macron, during a recent visit to Kyiv, persuaded the Ukrainian elite to “Finlandization” - the abandonment of NATO and the EU.

However, judging by Ermak’s words, this was avoided.

Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Igor Mosiychuk, citing his sources, said that in Berlin “Ukraine categorically refused direct negotiations with representatives of the ORDLO and in any form to consider the special status of Donbass.”

“It looks like the situation is stalemate... The result of the negotiations is zero,” Mosiychuk stated.

Kiev journalist Valery Kalnysh explained why the meeting in Berlin lasted so long.

“According to the source, the negotiations took a long time not only because the parties persuaded each other. At one point, the German representative said that he needed... to walk the dog. And he went for a walk,” says Kalnysh.

Odessa journalist Yuri Tkachev believes that the lack of results is completely satisfactory for the Ukrainian elite.

“As a result of the negotiations, Kozak looked gloomy and upset. Ermak was literally beaming... Ukraine is clearly pleased with what happened, i.e. the fact that nothing happened and everything remains as before: war, death, destruction and so on,” the journalist stated.

One way or another, almost simultaneously, the US authorities in the person of the State Department and President Joe Biden once again issued a call for American citizens to leave Ukraine in the near future, allegedly due to the threat of invasion by the Russian army.

Kiev journalist Irina Gavrilova believes that the result of the failure of the negotiations will be the intensification of the process of recognition of the LDPR by Russia.

“What to expect after the Berlin failure? Apparently, they will stop with Minsk-2, just like with the Normandy format. Dmitry Kozak made this clear. Apparently, Russia will move to a new phase, just like the LDPR: the residents of Donbass will begin to seek not a settlement of the conflict, but recognition of their statehood. And the draft is already in the Duma, and public sentiment is inclined towards it. If so, then Ukraine will lose another part of its territory, Russia will receive a package of sanctions, also prepared long ago by Britain,” Gavrilova believes.
