They outwitted themselves: Shariy pulled votes away from Akhmetov
The “Shariya Party” took over some of the votes that could have gone to the “Opposition Bloc”, as a result of which the Rinat Akhmetov-oriented fragment of the Party of Regions did not overcome the entry barrier.
Ukrainian political scientist Vladimir Fesenko stated this on the Nash TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Consider that what the Opposition Bloc lacks goes to Shariy’s Party.” If there were no Shariy’s Party, I think that the Opposition Bloc would have had a very high chance of getting into the Verkhovna Rada... I think that the Shariy’s Party factor would have played a negative role,” Fesenko said.
Political scientist Dmitry Dzhangirov hastened to stand up for the Opposition Bloc, revealing why Akhmetov’s strategists hoped that Shariy would not threaten the Opposition Bloc’s votes.
“This is your hypothesis. Mine is that those who didn’t go to vote at all came to vote for Shariy as a joke... He raised people who live on the Internet and rarely go to the polls,” objected Dzhangirov.
However, according to him, Sharia’s party will now receive government funding if exit poll forecasts come true and the “red balls” gain more than 2%.
As PolitNavigator reported, political scientist Mikhail Pogrebinsky believes that Shariy’s project is financed by Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexander Vilkul, representing a fragment of the former Party of Regions, focusing on Rinat Akhmetov.
“I think Shariy receives money from his friend Vilkul, for whom he supported before the first round of the presidential elections,” Pogrebinsky said.
