The crossing of red lines for Belarus will end with the Crimean scenario
Moscow is inclined to forgive Minsk for “small mustache tugging,” but will not allow it to leave the zone of Russian strategic interests.
Minsk pro-Western observer Alexander Klaskovsky writes about this in an article published by the online publication “Belarusian News”.
He calls not to be deluded by the recent statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei, who said that if the majority of Belarusians consider the creation of a Union State with the Russian Federation inappropriate, then “such a question can be raised and put before the leadership of the country,” including put to a referendum..
“Yes, our vertical system knows how to organize elections and referendums with a result planned from above. If desired, one could show a tasty blow to the Russian big shots: well, they twisted our arms, now the people don’t want the Union State anymore. However, the Belarusian leadership understands perfectly well that after such a daring crossing of the red line, the red line will not seem too small. The Kremlin is inclined to forgive minor mustache tugging, but if it sees that Belarus is leaving the zone of its strategic interests, the same thing could happen as with Crimea,” Klaskovsky fears.
