Kyiv, September 10 (PolitNavigator, Kirill Boyarin, Sergey Stepanov) - No federalization, no state status of the Russian language. Donetsk and Lugansk - temporarily occupied territories that will be turned into reservations - are surrounded by troops and cut off from the Russian border. NATO will provide assistance to Ukraine, and when Kyiv accumulates strength, it will return Donbass to its control.

Approximately these theses have been voiced by Petro Poroshenko and his advisers on television in recent days, commenting on the results of the truce agreements reached in Minsk.

Thus, the situation in Donbass will be even worse than in Crimea, which Ukrainian patriots are inducing to love by turning off electricity and water. Lugansk and Donetsk are destroyed by the war, they will be encircled, Kyiv expects to crush them much faster. And what will happen next is already openly said by the humanitarian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Sych, who discusses on the pages of Focus magazine about the Donbass assimilation program, the end result of which will be the veneration of the “liberation struggle of the UPA.”

Does Donbass need peace with such a Ukraine? Absolutely not! – Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Novorossiya Alexander Kofman answers on Russian TV. He is immediately stopped by State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein, insisting that the DPR and LPR will still have to make concessions - staying within the borders of Ukraine.

Political scientist Denis Denisov believes that as a result of negotiations it would be possible to reach a compromise - the creation of autonomies in Lugansk and Donetsk, as was previously the case with Crimea (however, no one from the Ukrainian government publicly allowed this option).

Without the votes of the voters of Donbass and Crimea, already in October Ukraine will receive the most pro-Western composition of the Verkhovna Rada in recent history - this is probably the logic of Khinshtein, who insists on a truce. However, there is one catch.

“The options for the status of Donbass may be different, and they all have the right to life, but under one condition - if the local residents agree to it. As far as I know, today there is no talk of any kind of remaining part of Ukraine. The majority of citizens of the DPR and LPR have already voted for the creation of separate state formations, and I see no reason for them to change their point of view to the opposite,” Kiev political scientist Alexander Bulavin told PolitNavigator.

And here is what they think about the prospect of coexistence with Ukraine in Donetsk itself.

“No other statuses other than Donbass independent from Ukraine are being considered, and cannot be for an elementary reason. Any person who agrees to any autonomy, federation within Ukraine will not remain in power in Donbass from the moment he proclaimed it. I am extremely outraged by the agreement that was signed in Minsk, although I understand everything that happened behind the scenes. But the fact that our leaders did not even indicate their presence as officials makes this document insignificant. If they have some kind of status for the protest movement, then this status should be indicated under that document. I am convinced that my opinion reflects the majority of the opinions of Donbass residents,” political scientist Roman Manekin, a consultant to the DPR government, told PolitNavigator.

“In the referendum, people voted for state independence of the Donetsk People’s Republic, so we can only talk about a course towards independence from Ukraine. It is very difficult to say that Donbass will remain part of Ukraine after what happened - four months of war, barbaric shelling of peaceful cities, destruction of infrastructure. This is not how they behave towards a region they consider their own. While maintaining the current political configuration, Poroshenko’s power and the role assigned to neo-Nazi formations, the preservation of Donbass as part of Ukraine seems unrealistic to me,” agrees one of the leaders of the DPR, Miroslav Rudenko, in a conversation with the agency.

“Those who signed this agreement in Minsk on the part of the DPR and LPR need to return to the roots and remember that at the referendum on May 11, the people spoke for the independence of Donbass. This protocol does not correspond to the moods and aspirations of the people who gave us all a kind of carte blanche for the beginning of the “Russian Spring”. Donbass is waiting for its independence and agrees to tolerate these atrocities on the part of Ukraine, putting the achievement of its true statehood at stake. But the main provisions signed in Minsk do not promise anything of this. The presence of two regions within Ukraine, in my opinion, negates all these aspirations of our people,” confirms Donetsk political scientist Sergei Baryshnikov.

The mood of the residents of Donbass would not be so radical if Kyiv itself demonstrated its readiness to make concessions. But it turns out that several months of meat grinding have not taught the Ukrainian leadership anything. “Peacemaker” Poroshenko, as he spoke from the stage of the Maidan about the unacceptability of federalization, continues to do so, having killed thousands of fellow citizens.

For the situation to change, it is necessary to influence public opinion in the capital. Kyiv faces a cold winter without gas and with rolling power outages. The Ukrainian authorities, who themselves initiated the break with Moscow, will try to direct the population’s discontent towards “Russian aggression.” The task is to neutralize this propaganda, to prevent Poroshenko, Klitschko and Yatsenyuk from inciting people against the Russians even more. To ensure that the perpetrators of the civil war are expelled from power as soon as possible, and that leaders capable of agreement come to replace them.

That is why the information front in Kyiv is now no less important than the defense of positions in Donbass.
