Peremoga: Ukraine begged the EU for 1 billion euros

Ukraine and the European Commission signed a Memorandum on the European Union providing the country with macro-financial assistance worth €1 billion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The signing ceremony took place in Kyiv with the participation of acting. Minister of Finance of Ukraine Oksana Markarova, head of the country's National Bank Yakov Smoliy and European Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services and the Capital Markets Union Valdis Dombrovskis, the press service of the Ministry of Finance reports.

As President Petro Poroshenko said after signing the document, the funds provided are “a great help in carrying out reforms” in the country.

In turn, Dombrovskis noted that the program is aimed at “solving economic issues and supporting the economic situation, creating jobs.” “The new program supports key reforms. The main focus is on fighting corruption, and the new program contains conditions that were not met during previous programs,” he explained.

The European Commissioner also emphasized that the provision of assistance also depends on the “parallel implementation of the IMF program.” “It is very important that the current negotiations with the IMF remain positive,” he said.

At the end of June, the EU Council approved the start of a fourth aid program for Ukraine worth €1 billion. Only Hungary opposed this.
