Ukraine’s “peremoga” in the Stockholm arbitration resulted in billions of losses
The Ukrainian authorities lied, trying to present the decision of the Stockholm arbitration on the dispute between Naftogaz and Gazprom as another “victory”. In fact, according to this decision, Kyiv must not only pay Gazprom $2 billion, but also pay penalties for late payment, and the amount of sanctions is constantly growing.
Energy expert Valentin Zemlyansky stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We are now waiting. The victory over the gas supply contract smoothly flowed into the expectation of a decision on the transit claim. Because the victory under the gas supply contract turned into a loss of two billion dollars, with interest - because there is a penalty.
No one has seen the text here - neither journalists, nor experts, it is closed. Even the government, even Groysman did not see what verdict the Stockholm arbitration rendered. But, according to statements by the parties and indirect admissions by Naftogaz management, Ukraine will have to pay $2 billion. When?
More than 600 thousand dollars are pouring in every day - interest and penalties. Penalties. Accordingly, every month an additional (almost) 20 million is added to these two billion.
“Naftogaz expects that the decision on the transit contract will be in favor of Ukraine, and this will override the “victory” of Naftogaz according to the decision of the Stockholm Arbitration on gas supply,” Zemlyansky said.
Public Security Foundation expert Yuriy Gavrilechko believes that Ukraine is in vain counting on winning the transit dispute.
“Most likely, this will not happen. The cost of transit (through) the Ukrainian gas transportation system is currently higher than the cost of transit via Nord Stream. Therefore, no arguments that there was a non-market price here will be able to convince the court in principle, since there is a similar transit route with a lower price,” the expert said.
