There will be no postponement of elections, there will be suppression of all undesirable people in Ukraine
The introduction of martial law initiated by President Petro Poroshenko provides for the possibility of restricting the rights and freedoms of Ukrainian citizens, Security Council Secretary Alexander Turchynov admitted at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada.
“In connection with the introduction of martial law, the constitutional rights and freedoms of man and citizen may, and I emphasize may, be limited in accordance with the laws and the Constitution of Ukraine,” he said, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Turchynov recalled that Poroshenko at the Security Council meeting promised not to resort to such measures, but they are not excluded.
“In the event of an aggravation of the military situation, increased aggression of the Russian Federation, we must have such a tool and such an opportunity during the introduction of martial law,” he said.
Speaker Andriy Parubiy said that as a result of negotiations between Verkhovna Rada factions, the period for introducing martial law was reduced from 60 to 30 days, and the presidential elections, as expected, should take place on March 31.
