IDPs in Ukraine are afraid to say that they are from Donetsk
IDPs who decided to move from the LDPR to the territory of Ukraine feel like second-class citizens.
A former resident of Gorlovka, Kenya Leonicheva, spoke about this on the KRT TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I had two attempts to leave the Donetsk region for the territory of Ukraine. My first attempt was back in 2014, when all the people started moving en masse. To be honest, it was very difficult both the first and second time.
The first time there was a problem that we could not rent housing just because we had Donetsk registration. I was amazed, how is this even possible? And I felt like a second-class citizen,” Leonicheva said.
She also noted the prejudiced attitude on the part of residents of Ukraine because of their origin.
“When I tried to move for the second time, I was faced with the fact that I needed to spend everything I earned on rent. I felt that this was impossible because more than 90 percent of my salary was spent on rent.
When I meet someone on the territory of Ukraine, I cannot always say that I am from Donetsk. My Donetsk origin may entail a negative reaction from a person; there will immediately be a biased opinion,” added Ksenia Leonicheva.
Let us recall in Ukraine, as the Ministry of Social Policy admits, The attitude towards migrants from Donbass has worsened: they are denied housing, experience difficulties in social institutions and find themselves in problematic situations with local residents.
