IDPs consider Lvov’s patriotism ephemeral

These are the results of a study of the social and cultural needs of young people who moved to Lviv from the east and Crimea, which was carried out by the cultural department of the Lviv City Council, reports the publication “Zaxid”.
To the question “If you feel good among Lviv residents, then why?”, focus group participants put respectful attitude towards representatives of different cultures in the first place, while the second point - the desire to help - was called only verbal help and associated this with the high cost of housing.
“We said at the beginning of the survey that we wanted to identify cultural needs and not focus on social problems, of which people have many. However, people sometimes confused the concepts of help and patriotism with market-based housing policies in the city. In particular, they appealed to the fact that in fact Lviv residents have no patriotism, because they rent apartments to displaced people who find themselves in a difficult situation at a very high price,” said Irina Magdysh, head of the culture department of the Lviv City Council.
Among the reasons why they feel uncomfortable in Lviv, survey participants named the reluctance of young Lviv residents to learn more about the Crimean Tatar culture and the language issue. The latter was emphasized by people from eastern Ukraine, who have always been in a Russian-speaking environment, and answering a question in a non-Russian language makes them feel uncomfortable.
As for the willingness of displaced people to actively participate in the public life of Lviv, then, according to Irina Magdysh, the majority of participants were unable to give a clear answer to this question.
“Obviously, the social life of the displaced people at home was either very inactive or non-existent. Most people confuse this concept with the word “policy” and believe that the initiative should come from the state,” she said.
The survey involved 9 migrants from Donbass and 15 from Crimea aged 18 to 35 years, who were forced to move to Lviv.
As PolitNavigator reported, according to the UN, the number of migrants from Donbass has reached 310 thousand.
