Putting Russia “on a war footing” for the sake of a speedy victory in the Northern Military District in Ukraine is unlikely to happen, says political scientist Sergei Markov.

“Sociology says that the majority of the population is tired of news about the military and wants there to be less military news. Therefore, the old policy “the army is at war, and the country lives an ordinary life” will remain. There will now be no transformation of the country into a single military camp. There will be no slogan “everything for the front, everything for victory.” The country will continue to live a normal peaceful life.”

Putting Russia “on a war footing” for the sake of a speedy victory in the Northern Military District in Ukraine is unlikely...

Political scientist Semyon Uralov argues similarly - he notes that Russia in this sense is no different from either Ukraine or Moldova.

“Society does not want a special operation, much less a war. Society can accept the inevitability of shocks if these shocks do not disturb everyday life. And they will definitely disturb you. The average person is the dominant type of modern society. The modern citizen is taught from birth to consume and value his individuality.

From the point of view of consumer characteristics, the special operation is a so-so product. Therefore, the average person does not want to think about it. He closed his eyes. I turned on the “I, chamomile” mode. Everything is like in Ukraine and Moldova. Most residents and guests of the capital live in the “I, chamomile” mode. This must be admitted.

Our society will gradually split into a politicized minority and a philistine majority. This is how a new type will be born - the “Russian hataskraynik”. As the flip side of the “Russian hat-thrower” from a politicized minority.”

The same arguments are published by ex-deputy of the Odessa City Council, military correspondent Igor Dimitriev.

“Widespread support for SVO is more like watching a TV show or fireworks: it’s fun to watch, but participating in it yourself or sacrificing something is no longer possible. And the government is elected precisely so as not to participate in anything and so that the war is far away. Only a small layer of extremely restless citizens are concerned about such issues.

Here, on the Internet, there is a distortion, and we extrapolate the sentiments in this category of citizens to the whole country. But in fact, people are tired of this whole topic and will not be especially indignant at digressions somewhere far away on TV. The main thing is that this does not interfere with the ordinary life of the Russian region.

The main thing is that there is at least some version of what happened, and people will pick it up. Well, the confidence that life will be the same as before – with stability and fireworks.”
