There will be no reset: The Biden Administration has declared Russia an enemy
The new administration of United States President Joe Biden is heading towards confrontation with Moscow.
Kommersant writes about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Joe Biden administration became the first in post-Soviet history to not even proclaim an attempt to improve or “reset” relations with Russia. Moreover, in Washington these relations are openly called hostile,” the article notes.
The publication quotes White House press secretary Jennifer Psaki, who described the need to extend the START II treaty with the following words: “The extension of this treaty is all the more necessary in conditions when relations with Russia are hostile, as they are now.”
She also voiced a number of threats against the Russian Federation.
“While we work with Russia to advance American interests, we are also working to hold Russia accountable for its reckless and hostile actions,” Psaki said.
The publication notes that there is no request for improvement in relations in American society, while the American media and the expert community are almost unanimous in their assessments: no “reset” in relations with Russia is required and is not expected.
"'Reset' has become a dirty word in Washington when it comes to Russian politics," Nathan Hodge, a former Moscow bureau chief for the network and the Wall Street Journal, writes in an article on CNN's website.
“The Biden administration must ultimately develop a policy of containment,” writes former Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor David Cramer in Foreign Policy magazine.
