“The period of fraternization with NATO turned out to be more destructive than confrontation” – Russian general
During the period of “partnership” with NATO, Russia lost more in geopolitical and strategic importance than during the entire period of confrontation with the Alliance.
Russian military and public figure, Colonel General Leonid Ivashov, stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What is better for us, for the security of the Russian Federation and not only - competition, even to some extent confrontation, or partnership? In those days, we were all in military service, and I believe that during the period of friendship, fraternization with NATO and the Partnership for Peace program, and the founding Russia-NATO Act, we lost much more in geopolitical and strategic significance than when we were NATO resisted,” said Ivashov.
“I always keep in my head the phrase said in 1912 by the Russian general and geopolitician, then Colonel of the General Staff, Alexey Efimovich Vandam - worse than a war with the Anglo-Saxons, there can only be friendship with him,” the Colonel General concluded
