“Promising youth and the settlement of Siberia”: Lavrov told what he expects from migrants
Russia needs to consider expanding the list of priority settlement regions to include migrants.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this at a meeting of the Commission for International Cooperation and Support of Compatriots Abroad, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Lavrov, when preparing the law on migration, which will be considered in the near future, a number of comments and proposals should be taken into account.
“The preparation of a draft federal law in the field of migration is now being completed. It is important that the document contributes to maximally simplifying the conditions and procedures for the return of compatriots for permanent residence in Russia. Of course, without discriminating against anyone, but special attention, priority attention must be paid to attracting highly qualified specialists, scientists, and promising youth,” said the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“The time has come to update the criteria for selecting potential migrants, which are enshrined in regional programs. And control on the part of regional heads over the activities of the authorities that make decisions on accepting migrants is very important. We should probably set a goal to eliminate unmotivated refusals. I would consider it possible to consider expanding the list of priority settlement regions. Now the task of attracting our citizens and future potential citizens of Russia to the regions of eastern Siberia is especially acute,” Lavrov said.
