Kyiv, May 01 (Navigator, Vladimir Mikhailov, Kirill Boyarin) – May Day in the capital of Ukraine passed quietly: the communists, fearing attacks from the far right, abandoned the demonstration in the center of Kiev for the first time in recent years – and Khreshchatyk is still occupied by tents of Maidan supporters. However, experts believe that the real struggle of workers for their rights is still ahead - the economic crisis has not yet reached its peak to give rise to a new revolution - now against the Maidan oligarchs.

One of the slogans of the victorious revolution in winter was the fight for the return of billions, which, as was stated from the stage of the Maidan, were stolen by the regime of Viktor Yanukovych. The current Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has estimated that the previous government stole and transferred about $70 billion to offshores, and the head of the Svoboda faction Oleg Tyagnibok registered in the Verkhovna Rada a bill on the return of withdrawn capital from offshores

However, in reality, the new government is not taking any steps to ensure that the announced amounts return to the country, limiting themselves only to PR statements, says Andriy Novak, Chairman of the Committee of Economists of Ukraine.

The reason, apparently, is that the process of returning capital is quite complicated and will take a lot of time, the expert suggests. Thus, if you start it now, you will be able to return the money to Ukraine in a few years, when the government has already changed.

“This topic will be exploited in Ukrainian politics in the near future, along with the return of Crimea, some will promote themselves and promise to return the withdrawn funds,” notes political scientist Kost Bondarenko.

However, another reason for the inability to return the billions withdrawn abroad may be the opposition of the oligarchs who came to power as a result of the Maidan. Petro Poroshenko, Igor Kolomoisky, Sergei Taruta - they also made their fortunes in the “dashing nineties”, why do they need a precedent? Who knows what Interpol will dig up if it seriously deals with Ukrainian moneybags?

Meanwhile, May 1 this year is a special date for “little Ukrainians.” May Day will be marked by another blow to the wallet - from today, housing and communal services tariffs, excise taxes on alcohol, tobacco and gasoline have been increased.

Ordinary citizens are becoming poorer, and the oligarchs are still at the helm - a new riot in Kyiv cannot be avoided, says political commentator Alexey Blyuminov.

“It was said from the very beginning that there would be another Maidan. At least, I personally had no illusions about this. Here it must be taken into account that the current government has managed to quite effectively channel the discontent of that category of the population that supported the Maidan, using the image of an external enemy. The authorities still have a reserve of three to six months. During this time, it can still exist searching for some saboteurs, enemies, spies, and so on. You need to understand that if there are mass unrest, their personnel will be based on the same people who took to the Maidan then, with the same slogans, but perhaps with new leaders. People will demand the same thing they demanded last time - to give power to the people and drive out the oligarch clans,” he predicts in a conversation with Navigator.

“Everything depends to a large extent on how the economic situation will develop... By the fall we will see social collapse and greater polarization. The forces will shift to the radical poles, and the far right will gain more influence than they already have, and the left forces in the new format will become a significant political force in the country,” says Borotba representative Sergei Kirichuk.

Well, indeed, the revolution in Ukraine has no end; the real May Day in Kyiv is still ahead.
