The strike itself did not last long - after assurances from the management that the debt would be repaid during the day, the drivers went on flights, and the head of the republic, Sergei Aksenov, took personal control of the situation.

The situation with strikes is not a new phenomenon for Crimea, however, the fact that this happened for the first time in the Russian peninsula is considered by a number of Crimean politicians to be a wake-up call for the authorities.

“The first step to protect their constitutional rights, and this is not only freedom of speech and others, but also the right to work and receive remuneration for it, was taken by trolleybus workers. This is a very sensitive link in public sentiment because 30-50 people, trolleybus drivers, can go on strike, and the whole of Simferopol and Crimea will immediately feel this. And the fact that chatterboxes are ruling Crimea today, unprofessionals, that they have no experience in management work, this has become completely obvious, and not even a year has passed. It’s a pity, but this is the path that can provide quite serious support, because Crimea is tired of promises, queues and the fact that bribes are taken at every step,” said the ex-chairman of the Supreme Council of Crimea Leonid Grach.

Deputy of the Simferopol City Council Stepan Kiskin also agrees with him. According to him, the current situation with non-payment of wages should be investigated by law enforcement agencies: “We moved from Ukraine to Russia, but we did not move to socialism. Of course there will be strikes. Sooner or later it will pass anyway. This may be a failure of the authorities, perhaps there is a corruption scheme at work. Law enforcement agencies need to figure this out, the prosecutor’s office needs to get involved or sort it out. This is unacceptable – it is criminal to withhold wages.”
