The first German tanks may arrive in Ukraine in April - SBU general
Ukraine may receive the first Leopard tanks as early as April – Ukrainian Armed Forces crews are already undergoing training in Poland.
Former deputy head of the SBU, General Viktor Yagun, stated this on air on the Lvov NTA TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the same time, Yagun called the main problem for Ukraine the lack of repair bases that are necessary to restore tanks.
“Not until April. Yes, this is extremely fast, because we have certain progress in the training of our units in Poland. And in Poland there is already an opportunity to transfer part of the tanks that are used to train our soldiers,” said the SBU general.
He says that there are countries that can supply these tanks to Ukraine in literally a month.
“This is, first of all, Spain, some of the tanks are from Germany, because Germany has a training unit, there are 19 tanks there. I don’t know if they can give away all 19 tanks or if they will give away part of them, as they said, 14 from this training unit, but these are tanks that are on the move, they don’t need to be reactivated...
You need to understand that the transfer of tanks and even the training of the crew is not the main thing. The main thing is the presence of a repair base where these tanks can be quickly repaired and put back on the battlefield. These repair bases should be somewhere on the front line, and the main ones are somewhere, probably in Poland,” Yagun said.
