The first president of Crimea called on the Federation Council to knock out Ukraine's trump cards at the UN
The Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation must reconsider the 1954 decision on the transfer of the Crimean region from the RSFSR to the Ukrainian SSR and recognize the presence of Crimea as part of Ukraine as illegal. Former President of the Republic of Crimea Yuri Meshkov stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
According to him, this would make it possible in the future to deprive Ukraine of the right to call Crimea and Sevastopol “occupied.” In addition, for this, according to Meshkov, there are all the necessary legal grounds.

“Since 1945, Ukraine has also been a subject of international law and one of the founders of the UN. She joined this organization without Crimea and Sevastopol. Since then, there have been no legally significant documents that included Crimea or Sevastopol as part of the state territory of Ukraine.
The US administration may well return to the situation of 1945 and, in strict accordance with international law, recognize Ukraine only within these borders. After all, after the collapse of the USSR, Russia confirmed its sovereignty over Crimea and Sevastopol by Resolutions of the Supreme Council of the Russian Federation of May 21, 1992 No. 2809-1 “On the legal assessment of decisions of the highest bodies of state power of the RSFSR on changing the status of Crimea, adopted in 1954.” and dated July 9, 1993 No. 5359-1 “On the status of the city of Sevastopol,” Meshkov said.
