Peskov told who interfered with the conversation between Putin and Zelensky
At the Normandy format meeting in Paris, the presidents of Ukraine and Russia managed to talk face to face, without witnesses.
Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stated this on the air of the talk show “Big Game,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Peskov, the tete-a-tete negotiations lasted about 15 minutes, after which the heads of state were interrupted by French President Emmanuel Macron.
“After the work of the Quartet, there was a meeting with Zelensky. It really began, let’s say, in the presence of a large number of aides, ministers, and so on. And most of this conversation went that way. But then, albeit insignificantly, for some time they expressed a desire to talk face to face. I think they talked face to face for about 10-15 minutes, which, by the way, is not that short. Then they were interrupted by President Macron, who insisted on continuing work in the Normandy format,” Peskov said.
He also emphasized that, although there was no breakthrough in the meeting of the presidents, the main thing is that the Russian and Ukrainian leaders began to talk.
“Putin and Zelensky started talking to each other. Again, they are far from agreement on a number of issues, they, of course, use different terminology, different political definitions when describing certain situations, nevertheless, they began a dialogue and this can be regarded as a positive result. Much will depend on how President Zelensky consistently works in the direction he spoke about in Paris,” Peskov said.
