Peskov said that he is a liberal: “It’s impossible not to love the West”
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov considers himself a liberal. He stated this in an interview with TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would not say that the pure ideas of liberalism are close to me, but rather, I am a liberal. After all, I started my career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in any country is a very conservative institution in the good sense of the word. Mead's conservatism is the preservation of the roots and interests of the state. Therefore, I am rather a mixture - closer to liberalism, but with a reservation,” Peskov said.
He admitted that his family (a daughter who often travels abroad, and a famous figure skater wife Tatyana Navka) makes him a convenient target for recruitment by Western services, but hopes that he is being “kept an eye on.”
Peskov could not explain why Western sanctions have not yet been imposed against him, but said that he is ready for this “at any moment.”
“We joke that this is the absence of a quality mark,” Peskov said.
He was full of compliments to the West.
“It would be stupid to have a bad attitude towards the West. The West is technology. And we are behind them in many respects. The culture there is rich. And we have a place to share this culture; we also have the highest level. The West is the roots, especially Europe, we are not talking about the new states of the USA. It’s impossible not to love it,” Peskov said.
According to him, his wife, figure skater Tatyana Navka, who worked in the USA for 15 years, is still grateful to this country.
“She wandered around the world. When Russia was poor, she went to live in America. She is still grateful that America took them in. They were paid money. She weeded garden beds and scrubbed toilets to earn a pair of Levi's pants or go to McDonald's. This is how they lived in America. Then they earned money,” Peskov said.
