Activists of the “Russian Democrats” movement today held single pickets at the Belarusian Embassy in Moscow and at the Belarusian Consulate in St. Petersburg in support of the Union State and demanding that the Russian authorities take a tougher position towards the Minsk elite, which gravitates toward ideas of independence that are increasingly reminiscent of Ukraine.

The co-chairman of the Russian Democrats public movement, Sergei Grigorov, announced this in his Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Over the past decades, the Lukashenko regime has been pursuing a policy of de-Russification in Belarus, and a policy of destroying the common historical memory. An alien identity is being imposed on Russians, while there is an overwhelming majority of Russians in Belarus, more than 90%.

On the one hand, this is being done with the support of a number of Western countries in order to prevent the integration and restoration of historical Russia, and on the other hand, this is being done by Lukashenko and his authorities in order to preserve his sole power and his clan.

This is precisely why Lukashenko is against real integration. He wants to continue to receive money from Russia under beautiful words about friendship, but in reality, pursue a policy of splitting our common people,” Grigorov wrote.

He believes that in relation to Belarus the Kremlin is repeating the mistake it made in relation to Ukraine in 2014.

“We demand from the Kremlin visible and concrete steps forcing Lukashenko to change his policy, to stop the policy of turning Russians, especially Belarusian youth, into so-called Litvins. We also demand from the Kremlin a policy that would lead to the reunification of the Russian people torn apart in one state and one country,” Grigorov wrote.

According to him, yesterday one of the printing houses refused to print posters criticizing Lukashenko and Putin. And the leader of the St. Petersburg organization “Russian Democrats” Ivan Kuznetsov had problems standing at the Belarusian consulate with a poster “The Russian flag will return to Brest, Lukashenko is under arrest.”
