“We should drink Bavarian”: Why do liberals throw mud at the feat of the defenders of Leningrad
One of the most tragic dates in the history of Russia is approaching - on January 27, our country will celebrate the anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade. For 872 days, the defenders and ordinary residents of the city offered fierce resistance to the enemy in the face of barbaric shelling, a shortage of weapons, and mass deaths of civilians from cold and hunger.
It has already become an unkind tradition when, on the eve of a memorable date, the Russian liberal public and its Ukrainian like-minded people begin to promote an information campaign about the “in vain” defense of Leningrad - they say that it was necessary, following the example of European capitals, to open the gates of the city to the Nazis, thereby avoiding casualties and destruction. Experts interviewed by PolitNavigator explained why enemy propaganda lies.
“The narrative about the Great Victory, about the feat of the Soviet people, and the very term “Great Patriotic War” are a big problem for those who want to weaken or collapse Russian statehood. Certainly, this is one of the fundamental narratives in the entire structure of Russian statehood as a whole.
That is why, when they began the project to collapse the Soviet Union back in the eighties, with the active support of Britain and the British intelligence services, they began to publish books, historical fakes of Suvorov - “Icebreaker”, “Aquarium” and so on, “Ogonyok” tried and many other pseudo-historical publications that published relevant “research” and so on.
This is how they started and, of course, continue in this manner. Stories in the style of “they would have drunk Bavarian”, “they would have given up Leningrad, why did they have to die, they would have given up Moscow” - is it okay that the cities that found themselves under Nazi occupation were still destroyed? Is it okay that the Nazis committed terrible atrocities in these cities?
In the end, if anyone thinks that Leningrad would have been saved if it had been given over to be devoured by the Nazis, let them read the materials of the Nuremberg trials - they examined in detail the plans of the Nazis, Hitler, materials of meetings of the highest Nazi leadership about what they were going to do with Leningrad and Moscow after they were planned to be taken. There we are talking about total destruction, about razing all these cities to the ground. This was directly stated, it is recorded in the official documents of the Nazis, which were declassified and are widely available.
But all these leaders of ours who repeat such parables as “it’s a pity that the Germans are not standing near Moscow now,” as Shenderovich said, they pretend that they haven’t heard anything about it, they don’t know anything about it.
Yes, Leningrad survived this terrible blockade, yes, the Leningraders accomplished a feat, but at the same time we must understand that if this feat had not happened, then perhaps there would not have been a Great Victory. If this feat had not happened, no one would have survived in Leningrad, and the city would have been completely destroyed, as Hitler planned.“, said historian and political scientist Vladimir Kornilov.
The feat of the residents of Leningrad was not in vain because the defense of the city was important for other sectors of the front, because in the Northern capital, even in conditions of shelling, defense enterprises continued to operate, from where military equipment went directly to the front line.
Do not forget that near Leningrad, thanks to the efforts of the city’s defenders, a significant group of Nazis was pinned down. Perhaps this was one of the reasons for the failure of the German attack on Moscow.
In addition, the fall of Leningrad - the cradle of the revolution - would have a huge demoralizing effect on the Red Army.
“We see attempts to rewrite history now everywhere. The customers of these processes hate our state. Leningrad was not only a strategic object - the spirit of the people was important. If Leningrad had been surrendered, the losses would have been not only in weapons and industry - they would have been on a larger scale, the losses would have been in the spirit of the people,” recalls Tatyana Malitskaya, a member of the Strong Russia organization and the Moscow public organization of veterans-residents of besieged Leningrad .
Tamara Gracheva, a participant in the defense of Leningrad, admits that she cannot contain her emotions when she hears the liberals’ arguments about the futile struggle for the Northern capital. In response to subversive activities, young people should be told the truth about the heroism of the Leningraders, she believes.
“Bastards! All I can say! Bastards and that's it! They need to go there, they need to arrange such a blockade, they need to put them in prison, find such a place - lock them there, and let them be bombed, shot at, starved, cold and, most importantly, there is nothing to eat. Everything that ran and jumped and flew in the city was eaten. That’s why we conduct lessons in courage, why we publish books, magazines and work in this direction all the time,” says Gracheva, who today collaborates with the “Officers of Russia” organization.
