Writers from Russia, Belarus, Venezuela, Armenia, Zimbabwe, Iran, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, China, North Korea, Cuba, Laos, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Serbia, Syria and Sudan were banned.

“An exception may be the publication of works by deceased classics, as well as those modern writers of these countries who publicly support the territorial integrity of Ukraine and condemn the aggression of the Russian Federation.
Stop the practice of holding joint events (creative evenings, round tables, conferences, etc.) with diplomatic missions of the countries indicated in the annex,” says the decision of the National Writers’ Union.

The sanctions of the Ukrainian organization are more like an April Fool's joke and are unlikely to have any impact on writers from Zimbabwe, Nicaragua or even Kazakhstan, political scientist Vladimir Kornilov emphasized in a comment to PolitNavigator.

“To be honest, this looks like some kind of April Fools' joke. Apparently, someone mixed up January 1 and April 1. I don’t remember that there was a line of Zimbabwean or Kazakh writers who were eager to be published in Ukrainian and be translated.

I'm not even saying that writers from Russia were banned a long time ago. But symbolically, the Writers' Union has long been an organization that has been exclusively engaged in devouring grants, and especially foreign literature through the Writers' Union has not been published in Ukraine for a long time, by and large. Except perhaps for a few propaganda publications. So I don’t think that this will have any impact on writing in Zimbabwe and that any readers or publishers will notice this demarche. It’s clear that this is just another stupid trolling,” says Kornilov.
