Writer Ulitskaya: Russians live too freely and well to rebel
There is no new generation of “sixties” emerging in Russia, because the country is living as well as it has never lived before.
Russian liberal writer Lyudmila Ulitskaya stated this on the Latvian blog “And Graham Thundered,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Ulitskaya, who is in opposition to the authorities, admitted that today's Russians have every opportunity to work and buy what they want, there is no shortage, as well as restrictions on freedom of speech.
“The point is that everything is there and you can have everything if you want. And this feeling that we are full, we are dressed, there is work, in general. There is one in Moscow. Until recently, you could even buy a ticket and go to Montenegro or Italy for two weeks. That is, in fact, by some many parameters, Russia has never lived as well as it does now.
No one writes numbers on their hands in order to buy some kind of food order. Therefore this is an extremely important change. In order for some kind of movement to take place, for there to be this “movement”, there must be some kind of dissatisfaction with life. And today we have been given too much.
Therefore, what do you want? That same inner freedom? Well, she is. If you want to have it, please read what you want, it’s your freedom. If you want to earn money, earn money, you can too. If you steal, you will be imprisoned, but not everyone is imprisoned, by the way. And therefore, this incentive for development – it has actually been lost partly also due to the fact that everything is fine,” said Ulitskaya.
