Poroshenko’s plan collapsed: the UN published a report that thwarted Kyiv’s plan

The influential Ukrainian newspaper “Zerkalo Nedeli” called the next published UN report on human rights violations in the former Soviet republic extremely beneficial for Moscow and disadvantageous for Kyiv.

“Paragraph 2 provides a brief picture of the dramatic events that took place in Ukraine over the same period last year, including the so-called referendums in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea on March 16, as well as in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions on May 11. “Referendums” in Donbass were given a clear legal assessment as being contrary to the Constitution of Ukraine, international norms and standards. As for assessments of the “referendum” in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the document does not contain them. It would seem like a technical trifle. But, by a strange coincidence, such a presentation of the material fully corresponds to the Russian vision of the development of the situation (the Autonomous Republic of Crimea is part of the Russian Federation, which joined it as a result of the free expression of the will of the population, and Donbass is Ukraine, etc.),” writes the Kiev newspaper.

“Mirror of the Week” also reveals the meaning of the epic with the recognition of Russia as an “aggressor” by deputies of local councils (often in the South-East these decisions were harshly pushed through by Kiev under the threat of consequences for the people’s representatives who refuse to support the document).

“The document completely ignored the fact that Russia was recognized as an aggressor by the local authorities of Ukraine. The relevant decisions of regional, city, settlement and other councils that were adopted during the reporting period are not mentioned at all, and the Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on recognizing certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions as temporarily occupied (paragraph 10, 146) is only mentioned in passing ”, complains the Ukrainian newspaper.

“There is a position of the parliament, the head of state, the executive branch of government, local government bodies of Ukraine, and the Mission simply does not have the right to ignore them. However, he ignores it,” the author of the publication is indignant.

Another hope of Kyiv – to create the illusion of mass persecution of the Crimean Tatars by Russia – has also collapsed.

“The section of the report dedicated to the human rights situation in the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea has significant information gaps. First of all, this concerns the systematic persecution of the Crimean Tatars. And, again, the question is of an ideological and conceptual nature... The mission should have declared the targeted systemic persecution of the Crimean Tatars on ethnic grounds as a community opposing the annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea by Russia and declaring a commitment to the integrity of Ukraine. Unfortunately, such an approach is not observed in the report,” the publication states.
