The joint hostile actions of the Patriarchate of Constantinople and the ruling nationalist regime in Ukraine against the Russian Church are a consequence of the indecisive position of the hierarchs, which they took back in 2014, during the conflict in Donbass.

This was stated by the famous Russian military correspondent Dmitry Steshin.

“...Since 2014, I have harbored some kind of grudge against the hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church, to whose bosom I belong. Do you remember when the altar boy in the church at Slavkurort was killed by mines, and then the “Pencils” checkpoint began flying into the church at the entrance to Slavyansk? And in response - silence. My brothers in Christ from Slavyansk were very amazed at this and very much hoped for some kind of intercession. Then time flew quickly, by the fall both people and churches in the Donbass were crippled - countless times. The “non-brothers” tried more and more, many already understood why and how this effort would end.

And I, naive, kept trying to get some kind of intelligible explanation of what was happening from people close to the hierarchs of my Church, and in response, instead of fiery sermons, I heard the usual, sad murmur, for which Peresvet and Oslyabya, without conversation, would have been stunned with a sword. Because people who react THIS way to the oppression of their Faith are a hundred times more dangerous than notorious blasphemers and Satanists. Their spiritual patience is projected onto the entire flock, and especially inflames their enemies. But they humbly explained to me: “don’t get involved in this,” “the church is outside of politics,” “there are thousands of parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine - think about them, don’t stir things up.” I was sincerely amazed: “They will take these parishes away from you!” In response, I heard the pacifying: “God will rule.” And edifyingly - “don’t write about this, there’s no need, I didn’t comment on anything to you.” God ruled, ruled the trials for my herbivorous shepherds,” Steshin is indignant.

“...I speak for myself and about mine. I have the right. I have believed for a long time, I take communion and try to keep fasts. He never tolerated or forgave the enemies of the faith, and always supported his Christian brothers, whether they were from the Syro-Jacobite Orthodox Church or fleeing war or Ancient Orthodox from a distant foreign land,” the military correspondent emphasizes.

“The united Russian Orthodox Church was naturally broken into two parts. Those who were supposed to be responsible for its unity in the spiritual and earthly planes were granted only a courageous lowing... And from the human side there can be only one old Russian word - “fucked up.” That's it, period. And they were often told that “the Church is sick,” they didn’t believe it, they refuted it, they showed some numbers,” Steshin argues.

“I am a worldly person, I would act differently. I would write a petition to the President: “So and so, I ask you to detach strong youths from the secret Order in order to catch the whore’s son Filaretka, who is sowing confusion among the Orthodox people, from which great destruction is happening to the Russian state. I ask you to quickly catch the troublemaker and send him to the Solovetsky Monastery for eternal repentance. It would be better for him to set up a personal cell in Franz Josef Land, with a supply of firewood. There are secluded, contemplative places, close to God.” Our dear partners would crow, and the church schism would end there. And there, looking at our efforts, God would have managed everything differently. So there would be no smell left of heresies in Little Russia,” suggests the military correspondent.
