Western plan in Ukraine has failed – Alksnis
The conflict in Ukraine is beneficial in the long term for Russia, which managed to localize the war and keep it within a comfortable framework, gradually exhausting the West.
RIA Novosti agency columnist Irina Alksnis stated this on the PolitWera YouTube channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What is happening now suits Russia in the long term. This is one of the problems for the West - the current format of relations with the West suits Russia in the long term.
We are keeping military operations in Ukraine within a framework that is convenient for us, and at the same time we are building a new structure of global security, economic and political system, not with the Western world. And we are building a new system within ourselves, without straining ourselves and not allowing ourselves to overexert ourselves, but in more or less working mode,” Alksnis said.
She emphasized that the countries of the Western bloc expected to quickly defeat Russia and take on solving their problems with renewed vigor.
“And this is one of the biggest problems of the West, which hoped that Russia would be broken, that it would not have enough strength for a long-term conflict, and then it would be possible to move on to others.
And then they came to the conclusion that Russia had built a configuration that was quite comfortable for itself. That is, there are problems - the ruble has weakened, somewhere something is not very good, but these are all operational issues, we are solving them. We have a margin of safety.
But there is no wild tension at the maximum, with the prospect of collapsing or falling altogether,” the observer added.
