The United States wants to name China as the main culprit in the spread of the new type of coronavirus, as this could help President Donald Trump win the election.

“For Trump, the topic of relations with the PRC is acquiring domestic political significance, because it makes it possible to present the Democratic presidential candidate Joseph Biden as an agent of Beijing. The campaign team of the current head of the White House is actively promoting the idea that Biden does not want to consider China an economic threat. In addition, according to the democratic camp, by playing on anti-Chinese sentiment, Trump can evade responsibility for the US’s unpreparedness to fight the virus,” the publication notes.
The article also says that Beijing did not count on such an escalation, but entered into the game of seizing control of the agenda, since it is important for it to minimize risks to its reputation.
