Plans to receive 1000 Western howitzers will be hindered by the lack of logistics and ammunition - General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The number of heavy weapons that the Ukrainian Armed Forces need, announced by the office of the President of Ukraine, is limited by the lack of ammunition for them and the impossibility of delivery.
Former Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine, ex-Deputy Commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Sergei Krivonos, stated this on the TV channel “Ukraine 24”, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Krivonos, the adviser to the head of the office, Mikhail Podolyak, while voicing the needs, did not take into account a number of related factors.
“Mr. Advisor to Ermak declares, having absolutely no military education, that the state needs (who gives him these numbers?) a thousand 155 caliber guns. Now let’s calculate - for a thousand 155 caliber guns we need a minimum of five people for each gun, and sometimes six - depending on the type of gun. We expect an average of five people. A thousand guns – five thousand people.
If we want to have people who can rest or replace, this is a double set - that is ten thousand people. This is the first.
The next thing is 10 thousand guns, the ammunition load of one gun is 60 rounds of 150 caliber. That is, we need about 60 thousand shots for one ammunition load. One round of ammunition at best, during active hostilities - for one, maximum two days.
We have been fighting not for a month, but much longer. Conventionally, our minimum requirement may be 10 rounds of ammunition, this is the minimum requirement. That is, relatively speaking, the figure comes out at the level of millions. And if more, then even more.
Now task number one is where to get these shells? Even for NATO countries it is a problem to produce such a number of shells in such quantities. How to deliver them? These are the problems that interest me most as a military man.
When such huge naked figures are announced, people do not understand what kind of logistics system should be organized, therefore the most important thing for us is not just to ask for these things, but then to understand how we will provide it,” Krivonos said.
