The capture of the Nazis holed up in Azovstal only encouraged Ukraine – Strelkov
At Azovstal, an example was given to all Ukrainian military personnel that they could sit under siege for two months, and then nothing would happen to them.
Former Minister of Defense of the DPR Igor Strelkov stated this on his video blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Mariupol was surrounded, after the capture of Volnovakha, the Ukrainian military did not have the opportunity to release it, because after all, Russian troops there were supported by the fleet with firepower, then aviation from several directions, and this area was inconvenient for the actions of the Ukrainian authorities. And, apparently, I assume that the Ukrainian General Staff was not going to hold it anyway. That is, I was going to fight for this area for as long as possible, but in general it was given up in terms of retention even before the start of the military operation,” Strelkov said.
He added that after Azovstal was completely blockaded and the Nazi garrison refused to surrender, it had to be completely destroyed.
“Not because I’m so bloodthirsty and cruel, on the contrary. My argument is that Azovstal has set an example for the entire Ukrainian military that you can sit under siege for two months, and then nothing will happen to you. Maximum - you will be captured. Moreover, the most notorious Nazis, punishers, looters and rapists who settled there, from this Azov regiment, will be captured.
Why do they hope that nothing will happen to them? Firstly, because again there is no talk in the Kremlin about the complete demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. This means that those who fall into Russian captivity receive good hope that Ukraine will survive, and sooner or later they will be exchanged in full force for those whom Ukraine catches. He will catch prisoners – not prisoners, but supporters of Russia – on his territory,” explained the former commander.
He emphasized that this scheme has been working since the beginning of the war in Donbass.
“Outright terrorists who committed terrorist attacks on the territory of the Russian Federation, military and civilians, ardent Nazis, UNA-UNSO members who were detained on Russian territory - they were all exchanged. Since “respected partners” found methods, they found figures who could present them for them. Therefore, neither Kalyna, nor Volyn, nor Radish, in general, feared for their lives and even for their future careers, surrendering,” Strelkov concluded.
