Prisoners from Mariupol spoke about torture by the SBU
The Izvestia newspaper publishes in today's edition the story of two former SBU prisoners released from Mariupol who spent five years in prison on charges of “terrorism” and “separatism” - 29-year-old Vyacheslav Biryukov and 32-year-old Viktor Skripnik.
Both of them were part of an underground group that continued to operate in Mariupol after Ukrainian units recaptured it from the DPR. Biryukov and Skripnik were discovered and arrested in September 2014.
“They beat me mercilessly, mutilated me, and from the investigator’s office, on his orders, sent me to torture cellars. They kept me there for three days, beat me continuously, and then took me back to my cell. And a week later everything is all over again. Six months without stopping! – Biryukov told reporters.
It was there that his arm was broken with a pipe. The bone burst and is still in this condition for five years, the arm does not bend, no plaster was applied, and the doctor in prison did not examine him.
A false joint has formed on the hand. To correct the situation, you need to perform a complex operation to fuse the bone again.
Biryukov is also a Group III disabled person; his heart is supported by a pacemaker. During the beatings, the device broke down and was never restored, despite numerous appeals to the management of the detention center and to international organizations.
Skripnik has problems with his eyes, a dislocated shoulder joint after beatings, and disorders of the masticatory apparatus.
For all these years, none of them saw their relatives, and they were denied visits. The mothers of both boys were forced to leave their native Mariupol due to pressure. Vyacheslav’s father died last year, his son never said goodbye to him.
