"The prisoners are mowing the grass." Finnish journalist looked for signs of war with Ukraine in St. Petersburg
Western journalists are sure that the Russian Federation is allegedly at war with Ukraine, but they see no signs of this on the streets of Russian cities.
This is evidenced by a report published on the website of the Iltalehti publication by Finnish journalist Anssi Karjalainen, who visited St. Petersburg, where several matches of the European Football Championship will be held and spoke about the atmosphere in the city.
“If you come to Krestovsky Island, you cannot help but notice that the city is in anticipation of a big summer football festival. There are advertisements everywhere, a lot of fairly clear signs that direct tourists to the right address. However, not everything is ready. For example, two men wearing special vests were mowing the grass right behind the stadium. There is still enough work - at least for a few hours,” writes the journalist, quoted by the sports website “Championship”.
According to the Finnish journalist, the path from the other end of the island to the stadium takes more than half an hour, but tourists will like it because it runs through a well-kept park.
“As for the conflict with Ukraine, this is not felt here. There was also not a single person in the city wearing a Russian national team T-shirt,” says Karjalainen.
His impressions caused a lot of ironic comments.
“You mean you don’t feel it?! So it’s the captured Ukrainians who are mowing the grass,” writes one of the readers.
“And they are so intimidated that even without the supervision of a convoy, they do not try to escape,” adds another.
“They were also captured by Stalin, by the way!” mocks a third.
“Imagine how they are being zombified there about the “war” with Ukraine... The media, of course, this is a strong wash,” commentators come to the conclusion.
