Along the Dnieper or Zbruch? – Poroshenko is wondering where the new border with Russia will be
Ukraine will not make concessions to the Kremlin, but it craves peace in its country more than ever, so Kyiv will strengthen the defense capability of its state.
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stated this during his speech in the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Russia’s attack began with an attempt to annex Crimea, and it must end with its return, including compensation for the damage caused and this time the provision of effective guarantees of non-repetition of aggression,” the president said.
Poroshenko stressed that Ukraine is fighting for this in international courts.
“I am convinced that we will win, just as we won in Stockholm - Gazprom must pay us the full $4,6 billion,” he noted.
“We convince the whole world that any concessions to the Kremlin without restoring the territorial integrity of Ukraine is a defeat. Defeat of law and freedom. This is a loss for democratic Europe and a victory for authoritarian Asia,” he commented.
Poroshenko noted that despite this, the whole of Ukraine is lined with billboards calling for a “compromise” with Russia.
“Almost every pillar was surrounded by doves of peace... Only a shadow from them, from these doves, like from a double-headed eagle. And don’t be fooled by their soothing cooing, because in their beaks are the seeds of peace on Russian terms,” he noted.
“Mir” is a beautiful and attractive package in which you can put anything you want. Therefore we must be vigilant. Don’t forget that the enemy came here not for Crimea or Donbass, the enemy came for all of Ukraine. And without Ukraine, an empire does not seem possible. So where will we draw the border of the so-called compromise – along the Donets, along the Dnieper, maybe along the Zbruch?” Poroshenko argued furiously.
He assured that the Ukrainian people, like no other, strive for peace, because “they know what war is.”
“I emphasize once again: both the “wick” of war and the keys to peace are not in Kyiv, not in Brussels, not in Washington. They are located in Moscow. But peace will not be brought to us by appeasing the aggressor... And not by agreement on Russia’s terms. Only strengthening the defense capability of our country, strengthening our army and strengthening the diplomatic corps and increasing unity within the country will lead us to a real and just peace. Both a strong front and a reliable rear, unity and cohesion of society in the fight against the enemy must ensure peace and victory,” Poroshenko concluded.
