As a result of the meeting between Putin and Trump, Kyiv’s worst expectations came true
The main result of the GXNUMX summit in Hamburg, where the presidents of Russia and the United States met, can be considered the intention of Moscow and Washington to start a discussion about Ukraine.

Mikhail Pogrebinsky, director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflict Studies, stated this in a commentary to Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
“In Ukraine, the summit was expected with caution. There was a fear that Putin and Trump would be able to establish a dialogue and come to an understanding on a personal level. And the worst expectations for Kyiv seem to have come true. The second, not very pleasant result for the Ukrainian authorities, is general statements about the inviolability of the Minsk agreements and a statement of the need to implement them. An additional sadness is that this was discussed without the participation of Ukrainian representatives. And this means that a possible solution to security issues in Donbass under the supervision of senior Western comrades means the need to implement the political part of the agreements, which was not intended to be done in Kyiv,” the expert said.
“By and large, in Hamburg, Russia and the United States have only just begun to communicate on Ukrainian issues,” Pogrebinsky added. – Russia presented its position, and the United States took note of it. The Trump administration seems to have not yet formed its own comprehensive view of Ukraine, and Walker will have to figure it all out and work on the details. In other words, the main result of the summit can be considered the intention of Moscow and Washington to start a discussion about Ukraine in order to achieve some results.”
