Total quarantine and closure of Russian borders will not save the country from the spread of coronavirus, which causes the dangerous disease COVID-19.
The famous Moscow doctor Alexander Myasnikov stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.
He was skeptical about the call of LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky, who demanded a total quarantine be introduced in the country
“I just listened to an interview with Zhirinovsky, where he says: everyone must quarantine for two weeks, otherwise 300 thousand will die. The smartest person, brilliant forecasts, but still simple mathematics and common sense cannot replace medical knowledge and knowledge of the spread of the infectious process. A 2-3-4 week general quarantine will do nothing in terms of reducing the process (not dynamics, but reduction).
Then, if you strictly follow Zhirinovsky’s logic, everyone should just stand up together and hang themselves. Then the coronavirus, having not found hosts in the form of human bodies, will truly disappear. There is no other such opportunity,” the doctor said.
According to him, coronavirus infection will spread, but it is important to reduce severe morbidity and mortality.
“Vaccines will help. Although I will say right away that vaccines will not provide herd immunity, as we are now being told. Because again, politicians speak, not professionals. Professionals are more careful. We just don't have all the data. We hope, but we understand that, probably, everything will not be so easy, to put it mildly,” says the publication’s interlocutor.
Myasnikov also added that professionals should be given more time to speak out on this topic.
