The formal confrontation between President Rumen Radev and representative of the pro-Western Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party Boyko Borisov led to mass street protests after the arrest of two presidential advisers. Ilya Milushev was taken after he voluntarily brought documents containing state secrets to the prosecutor's office, which, according to him, he accidentally found near his office in the presidential administration building, and Plamen Uzunov was detained after a search as part of a case of abuse of power for personal gain.

It should be noted that before this there was an active relationship between Radev and Borisov. war of incriminating evidence. After the arrest of his adviser, the President of Bulgaria called on the citizens of the country to take to the streets to confront the “state mafia.” And on the same day, thousands of people took to the streets of Bulgarian cities, chanting “Mafia!” and "Resignation". Radev himself subsequently demanded the resignation of prosecutor Geshev and Prime Minister Borisov, along with his entire cabinet.

“People were brought to the square by anger, as a reaction to government lies, robbery, arbitrariness, racketeering,” said the President of Bulgaria. “All this forces more than two million Bulgarians to live outside the country.”

Despite the crowd, the protests are quite quiet, their participants do not provoke the police, and the police, in turn, do not detain anyone, despite obvious violations of the quarantine regime in force in the country.

“The socialists will ruin the country,” Prime Minister Boyko Borisov responded to the street protests with a video message. – GERB built twice as many roads as [the leader of socialist Bulgaria] Todor Zhivkov. I’m staying!”

The conflict between President Rumen Radev and Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has been going on since 2016, when the former went to the polls with slogans about rapprochement with Russia, supported by the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the Alternative for Bulgarian Revival party.

Rumen Radev initially tried to pursue a pro-Russian policy, but was afraid of the toxic environment. However, having come to power, the Bulgarian president failed to realize his intentions; experts believe that he was simply afraid to do this in a NATO member country overrun by Western creatures.

However, the protégé of the openly pro-Western and emphatically Russophobic party “Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria” (GERB), Boyko Borisov, has not forgotten Radev’s views and continues to do as much mischief as possible.
