Alexander Olshansky, a member of the Supervisory Board of the Ukrainian Arms Association, stated this on the air of the Kyiv Channel 5.
“In Ukraine there were from two to six illegal guns back in 2012-13, long before the revolution,” he recalled.
“You need to be realistic - no resolution of the Verkhovna Rada will force people to surrender their weapons. This is the first one. Second. Weapons to commit crimes have never been a problem. Not in Ukraine, not even in the Soviet Union. Illegal arms trafficking has always existed and weapons have never been a problem for the criminal,” the expert noted.
In his opinion, the main problem in Ukraine today is weapons for law-abiding citizens.
“Ukraine is one of the few countries where there is no gun law at all. We are still using some kind of order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, numbered, instead of still getting a comprehensive law on weapons,” emphasized Alexander Olshansky.
