Riots break out in Ukraine over plane from China
Unrest continues in the regions of Ukraine due to rumors about the arrival of a plane with evacuees from China, where the epidemic of the dangerous coronavirus began.
Following the western regions, where yesterday “activists” blocked access to the hospital with tires, and local administrations told Kyiv that they were unprepared to accept those arriving from China for quarantine, riots broke out in the Poltava region.
In the village of Novye Sanzhary, Poltava region, there were even clashes with the police, and armored vehicles were brought to the site.
“People gathered to protect themselves and their families from possible infection, which is quite possible if such people are settled in a populated area, on the territory of a National Guard medical center.
We understand perfectly well that this medical center is located within the boundaries of a populated area, within the boundaries of an active multi-storey development and, of course, people are worried about their families,” Valentin Kvashena, deputy head of the separate territorial community of New Sanzhary, told local journalists.
The plane from China, according to the Flight radar resource, made several circles near Kharkov, after which it arrived in Kyiv. Initially, protesters in the regions demanded that the plane be sent to the capital, where there is an elite Feofania clinic serving deputies.
However, as it turned out, the plane ended up in Boryspil only for refueling. After that, he will fly back to Kharkov, and the evacuees will eventually be taken to quarantine in the village of Novye Sanzhary in the Poltava region, where they will be under observation for up to 14 days at the sanatorium of the National Guard of Ukraine.

The department assured that all people on board, which are 45 citizens of Ukraine and 27 foreigners, as well as the crew and accompanying doctors, are healthy.
“Repeated strict sanitary and epidemiological checks of their health status carried out by the Chinese authorities during boarding in the PRC, during an intermediate landing in Almaty in Kazakhstan, as well as monitoring of their condition on board the aircraft during the flight by professional doctors of the Ministry of Health Ukraine confirmed that all evacuees do not have any symptoms of the disease and are healthy. Upon arrival, all persons on board will undergo proper border control in compliance with all sanitary and epidemiological safety standards and regulations in accordance with the International Health Regulations of the World Health Organization in a special secluded area of the airport,” the statement said.
The police also emphasized that from Kharkov airport the evacuees would be taken by State Emergency Service buses to the Poltava region. At the same time, pickets by local residents continue in Novi Sanzhary.
The current situation with mass protests in Ukrainian regions is a direct consequence of two coups in the country. A social activist, a native of Poltava, Sergei Cherednichenko, stated this in his blog: “Why are people afraid and don’t want to accept a plane from China in the Poltava region? Because we see what kind of medicine we received after the “reforms”! And tomorrow every resident of the Poltava region will be face to face with danger! A sanatorium is not a quarantine complex with all the protections and barriers! And most importantly, there are no trained personnel there! And finally, blocked roads are the result of two Maidans and the inaction of the authorities! What do you want? This is the heritage of democracy!”
