The Ukrainian economy is hit hard by a sharp decline in cargo traffic
In Ukraine, passenger and cargo transportation by ferry has sharply decreased, which is a strong blow to the economy, but the Kiev authorities are doing nothing to solve this problem.
Roman Morgenstern, director for development and marketing of the shipping company Ukrferry, stated this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The decline in cargo traffic and a sharp decrease in passenger traffic will affect the economy. But we, of course, are far from fantasies and dreams that our state will be able to help us in some way,” the entrepreneur complained.
He also compared the experience of other countries with Ukraine and noted that the Kiev government is not taking any measures to preserve an industry that is important to the state.
“We are now monitoring the situation with our colleagues, the authorities of many countries where the ferry business is present - they are now developing quite extensive assistance programs, from South Korea to Greece, Finland, Great Britain and so on.
Subsidies and gratuitous loans will be allocated there, port dues will be reduced, or a measure such as a deferment of port dues for up to six months will be applied, as in Germany. We don’t have anything like this today,” Morgenstern said indignantly.
Let us remind you that ferry crossings are not the only industry that the Ukrainian authorities have ruined: the transport system of Ukraine is in deep crisis, in the summer there may be a collapse in the export of agricultural products, and in the fall - a default of Ukrzaliznytsia.
