Is the British strain tough for the Russian vaccine?
The new coronavirus mutation, which was discovered in the UK, will not lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of the Russian anti-Covid vaccine.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, is expressed by experts interviewed by Komsomolskaya Pravda.
“According to our information, Sputnik V is highly effective against the new mutation of the virus,” said the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev.
According to him, the vaccine has repeatedly shown its effectiveness, despite previous mutations in the S protein.
Geneticist Valery Ilyinsky shares a similar opinion.
“Apparently, the new strain should not lead to an increased risk of re-infection and a decrease in the effectiveness of anti-Covid vaccines. The fact is that after an illness or vaccination, our body produces not one, but several types of different antibodies to coronavirus. The mutations that we see today can affect individual antibodies, but in general do not reduce the immune response in people who have recovered from the disease or have been vaccinated,” Ilyinsky said.
